Humble Pie – The British Pie Awards
While Chicken Tikka Masala may or may not be Britain’s favourite dish, pie will always have a special place in our hearts. Pie is comfort food, it is substantial, nourishing - and very British. You certainly can’t beat a good pie whether it be sweet, savoury or even gluten free and vegan. And we recognise the importance of pie in the UK by celebrating national pie week every year in March.
Holy Pie
A nod to one of the icons of British cuisine is The British Pie Awards, held annually in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. This year saw a fantastic turnout as the event has grown in popularity to a record 976 pies from 179 piemakers. The judging is done in a local church and seems appropriate then, that the pies be blessed by the Bishop of Leicester no less.

There are rules of course; pies must be completely encased with pastry and be commercially available. Where there are rules, there are judges and Jonathan, our MD, got to be one of the judges at this year’s awards.
